Company overview

UiPath makes an enterprise automation platform for robotic process automation, AI-powered process mining, and intelligent document processing. Daniel Dines founded it in 2005 in Bucharest, Romania. It started as a small Eastern European software shop and grew into the dominant player in the RPA market. The company is now headquartered in New York City.

The UiPath Business Automation Platform lets organizations discover automation opportunities, build software robots, manage them at scale, and measure results. UiPath Studio is the development environment where both citizen developers and professional developers build automation workflows using visual, drag-and-drop interfaces. UiPath Robots execute these workflows either attended (triggered by users) or unattended (running on servers automatically). UiPath Orchestrator manages, schedules, and monitors the robot fleet.

The platform goes well beyond basic RPA now. Process Mining and Task Mining use AI to analyze system logs and user interactions to find automation opportunities. Document Understanding applies AI to extract data from invoices, purchase orders, healthcare forms, and legal documents. Integration Service connects to enterprise apps through pre-built connectors. Test Suite automates software testing. Communications Mining analyzes emails, tickets, and customer messages for automation insights.

UiPath Autopilot brings generative AI into the mix. Users can describe automations in plain language, generate code, and create document extraction templates using AI. Combining traditional RPA with AI creates a more complete automation capability. Say a finance team spends hours manually processing invoices. UiPath can read the invoices with AI, enter data into the ERP system with bots, and flag exceptions for human review.

The company sells to enterprises across every industry. Use cases span finance, HR, IT, customer service, healthcare, and supply chain. The go-to-market includes direct enterprise sales plus major partners like Deloitte, EY, PwC, and Accenture. A community edition lets individual developers and small teams start for free.

Annual recurring revenue is roughly $1.4 billion with gross margins around 85%. The company has shifted from perpetual licenses to subscriptions, both cloud and on-premises. Net revenue retention exceeds 115%. Operating margins have improved substantially after restructuring.

With about 4,000 employees and a community of over 3 million automation developers, UiPath has made robotic process automation an essential enterprise technology and is expanding into comprehensive AI-powered automation.
