PagerDuty is a digital operations management platform that helps organizations detect, triage, mobilize, and resolve critical incidents in real time. Alex Solomon, Baskar Puvanathasan, and Andrew Miklas founded it in 2009 in San Francisco. PagerDuty replaced legacy alerting systems with an intelligent, automated operations platform used by engineering, IT, security, and customer service teams.
The Operations Cloud ingests signals from virtually any monitoring, observability, or ticketing tool. Datadog, New Relic, Splunk, AWS CloudWatch, Nagios, Zendesk. It uses event intelligence, which is machine learning-based noise reduction, alert correlation, and root cause analysis, to cut through alert storms. Duplicate alerts get suppressed. Only actionable incidents reach the right on-call person. Automated escalation policies, scheduling, and multi-channel notifications through push, SMS, phone, Slack, and Teams ensure critical issues get addressed within minutes.
The platform extends beyond incident response. AIOps capabilities, process automation from the Rundeck acquisition, status pages for stakeholder communication, and workflow automation all broaden the scope. Automation Actions let responders run diagnostic and remediation scripts directly from the incident timeline, cutting resolution time. PagerDuty Copilot brings generative AI with automated postmortems, status update drafts, and remediation suggestions.
Over 29,000 customers use PagerDuty, including about 65% of the Fortune 100. Technology, financial services, retail, healthcare, and government are the primary sectors. Annual revenue is roughly $450 million. Subscriptions drive over 95% of revenue. Gross margins exceed 85%. About 1,200 employees work at the company. PagerDuty has become a critical piece of modern DevOps, SRE, and ITOps practices.
