Varonis is a data security and analytics company. Its software protects enterprise data from insider threats, cyberattacks, and ransomware by monitoring data access across on-premises and cloud environments. Yaki Faitelson and Ohad Korkus founded it in 2005 in New York City. Varonis pioneered applying user behavior analytics to unstructured data, which is the files, emails, and collaboration content that hold an organization's most sensitive information.

The Data Security Platform discovers and classifies sensitive data across file servers, NAS devices, SharePoint, Exchange, Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Google Workspace, and cloud stores. It maps who has access, identifies overexposed or stale data, and continuously watches user behavior for signs of compromised accounts, privilege escalation, or data exfiltration. Automated remediation enforces least-privilege access and revokes excessive permissions at scale.

Varonis recently completed a strategic shift from perpetual licenses to a cloud-native SaaS platform. This cuts deployment complexity and gets customers to value faster. The SaaS platform includes Managed Data Detection and Response, a service where Varonis security analysts provide 24/7 threat monitoring and incident response. It's effectively a data-focused SOC-as-a-service.

Over 7,800 customers use the platform, including major financial institutions, healthcare organizations, and government agencies. Annual revenue is approximately $550 million. SaaS now drives the dominant share of new bookings. Subscription gross margins exceed 85%. Varonis employs about 2,400 people across offices in the US, Israel, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
