Summary
MongoDB's first quarter of fiscal 2026 produced $549.0 million in revenue, up 21.9% from the prior-year quarter. Atlas revenue rose 26% and represented 72% of total revenue, up from 70% a year earlier. The company added 2,600 customers and ended April 30, 2025 with over 57,100 total customers. Direct Sales Customers numbered over 7,500, up from over 7,100 a year earlier, and they generated 87% of subscription revenue. Customers with at least $100,000 in annualized recurring revenue or annualized monthly recurring revenue reached 2,506, up from 2,137 a year earlier. Net ARR expansion rate was approximately 119%. MongoDB Enterprise Advanced was 22% of subscription revenue, down from 25% a year earlier. Total headcount increased to 5,686 as of April 30, 2025 from 5,213 as of April 30, 2024. CEO Dev Ittycheria said the quarter brought the highest total net customer additions in six years.
Gross profit was $390.97 million, up 19.2%. Gross margin was 71.2%, down 1.6 percentage points. The mix shift toward Atlas and higher hosting costs pressured margins. Operating loss was $53.55 million, a 45.5% narrowing. Operating margin was negative 9.8%, an improvement of 12.0 percentage points. Net loss was $37.63 million, a 53.3% narrowing, and diluted EPS was -$0.46. Non-GAAP income from operations was $87.4 million, and non-GAAP net income was $86.3 million, or $1.00 per fully diluted share. Stock-based compensation remains a major difference between GAAP and non-GAAP results.
Operating cash flow was $109.93 million, up 72.8% from the prior-year quarter. Capital expenditures were $1.61 million, up 198.9%. Free cash flow, a non-GAAP measure, was $105.9 million, compared with $61.0 million a year earlier. Deferred revenue was $320.10 million, down 5.9% from the prior-year quarter, and remaining performance obligations were $774.30 million. MongoDB also announced an additional $800 million share repurchase authorization, bringing the total authorization to $1 billion. Mike Berry was appointed CFO, a 7-time CFO with over 30 years of experience. Voyage AI by MongoDB released the voyage 3.5 and voyage 3.5 lite retrieval models, and the MongoDB Model Context Protocol Server launched in public preview.
As of June 4, 2025, MongoDB issued guidance for the second quarter and full year fiscal 2026. The outlook covers the top line plus two non-GAAP measures. Non-GAAP income from operations is guided to $55.0 million to $59.0 million for the second quarter and $267.0 million to $287.0 million for the full year. Non-GAAP net income per share is guided to $0.62 to $0.66 for the second quarter and $2.94 to $3.12 for the full year. The company cannot reconcile these non-GAAP guidance measures to GAAP without unreasonable efforts because stock-based compensation is hard to predict. The exclusions include stock-based compensation, amortization of intangibles, acquisition-related costs and other items.
Management flagged macroeconomic headwinds that have slowed growth for existing Atlas applications, and it expects those headwinds to pressure revenue growth in the short term. Other risks include customer renewal and expansion, competition, global political conflicts between Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Hamas, rising interest rates, inflation, market volatility, potential failure to meet guidance, liabilities from AI in products and internal operations, limited operating history, a history of losses, share repurchase execution, sales and marketing expansion, developer credibility, intellectual property protection, security and privacy concerns, and managing growth and personnel. The company also faces the challenge of converting users of Community Server and the free Atlas tier into paying customers. MongoDB relies on continued growth in consumption of Atlas, and any slowdown in customer usage would hurt results.

Risks
Adverse macroeconomic conditions negatively impacted the quarter ended April 30, 2025, including slower than historical growth rates for existing MongoDB Atlas applications, and management expects short-term headwinds on the growth rate for existing Atlas applications.
More than the majority of revenue comes from MongoDB Atlas, which is primarily usage-based, and slower growth of existing Atlas applications plus limited visibility into revenue recognition timing could make future revenue less predictable.
The business depends on customers renewing one-year subscriptions and expanding usage, and the net ARR expansion rate was approximately 119% as of April 30, 2025; any decline in renewals or expansion could materially harm results.
MongoDB faces intense competition from legacy database providers such as IBM, Microsoft and Oracle and from cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure, some of which can bundle competing products or offer low-cost or no-cost alternatives.
Expanded AI and ML risk factors include EU AI Act obligations, potential intellectual property and security risks from generative AI, and competition for AI/ML talent; failure to implement or market AI/ML features could impair competitiveness.
The sales cycle is generally three to nine months and can extend beyond a year, and macroeconomic uncertainty may cause customers to delay discretionary technology spending and further extend the sales cycle.
Risk factors cite a December 2023 phishing incident through a third-party application that exposed customer contact information and account metadata, and industry reports of ransomware attacks on MongoDB instances due to Community Server security settings.
Gross margin declined to 71.2% in FY2026 Q1 from 72.8% in FY2025 Q1, and subscription gross margin declined to 76% due to a higher Atlas revenue mix and increased third-party cloud infrastructure costs.
Community Server is offered under the SSPL or AGPL, which may be held unenforceable or be seen as unsuitable for commercial use, limiting MongoDB's ability to monetize and protect its intellectual property and allowing competitors to use the software.
MongoDB is subject to evolving data privacy and security laws including the GDPR, CCPA, NIS2 and DORA, with fines up to 20 million euros or 4% of global turnover, and cross-border transfer restrictions could increase compliance costs and disrupt operations.
